Times Infinity
I know that my life is just scraps,
wisps of smoke that last
as long as a breath,
but, in contrast to the great tapestry
of Your universe,
these few threads I hold
are so dear to me
because they’re what I have.
I know You do not dismiss
the small riches in my moments
and in me
because You saw enough in them,
and in me,
to want to multiply my moments
by infinity
by turning that “x” on its end
to hang on Yourself.
Background:
I’m not the most gifted in math, but in a very big-picture way, I think math as a concept is beautiful. I think it’s fascinating that mathematicians discover glimpses of patterns that make up the universe - these explorers traversing intellectual frontiers unearth roots that underlie all that we see.
Since God is all good qualities and abilities to the nth degree, He is the source of such patterns. He, through Jesus, “sustain[s] all things by His powerful word” (Heb. 1:3). He has done such mind-boggling spiritual math that we who were brought low can be raised up in glory through Him being first raised by hands of created beings as a human child, then raised up by human hands and His own will as the greatest Offering, and finally raised up as the ultimate Priest by the radiance of “the power of an indestructible life” (Heb. 7:16).
I might not be naturally gifted in it, but goodness gracious, am I thankful for math!
Wishing you goodness without end,
Jess
