TBT: Writer’s Block

What do you do

when you have writer’s block?

It’s like there’s a door

in your mind that is locked.

You feel so useless

and frustrated, too.

Nothing will come,

nothing fresh and new.

How can you force

the locked door to open?

Feels like all you can do

is keep on hopin’.

Something will come

if you don’t think so hard.

Amazing ideas your

mind will bombard!

So, what do you do

when you have writer’s block?

Just patiently wait

for inspiration to knock.

Background:

What a frustrating feeling! Especially if you have a deadline or if writing is dear to your heart and you have felt stuck for a while.

There are a few weeks between the date listed for the last TBT poem and the date for “Writer’s Block” - maybe I was experiencing that stuck feeling and just decided to write about that!

That is a pretty tried and true method, I believe - don’t know what to write? Write about not knowing what to write. As I have often heard and repeated, sometimes just getting soooooomething on the page will lead to getting what you need on the page.

If you feel stuck, whether in writing or another area of your life, I pray that you practice patience and preparedness while you wait and that you discern God’s gentle guidance when moving forward is the next right thing.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
