TBT: Simple Things

A flower swaying in the breeze,

the smile on a young child’s face,

raucous laughter of friends together,

the comforting feeling of God’s grace.

A quiet moment with a close friend,

the times when you laugh so hard you cry,

finally finding what you’re looking for,

failing, but knowing you gave your best try.

Eating a cold bowl of ice cream,

racing down a wet, sandy beach,

a sunbeam on a cloudy day,

obtaining what, before, you couldn’t reach.

A crazy and funny game of laser tag,

hair being whipped about by the wind,

sitting with a good book you just can’t put down,

being young and playing pretend.

Admiring the beauty of the world God made,

watching T.V. with your family at night,

a cotton-candy sunrise, the beginning and end of a day,

finishing a poem you were trying to write.

Sweet, simple things bring joy to all

and give meaning to life, though they are so small.

Background:

I remember this being one of my favorite pieces from around this time in my early teens. I’m pretty sure this is one that lived in my pocket for a good, long while.

Happily, the dearness of each of these simple things is something I have carried with me much longer - it hasn’t changed.

May your day be blessed with simple things that bring joy to your heart.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
