TBT: Redemption

A man hung on a tree

long ago for you and me.

His death was slow and painful, too.

He stayed on the tree, faithful and true.

His Father had to turn away.

Around our sins He could not stay.

In pain and anguish our Savior cried

out to God, the most High.

His blood flowed freely from His side

to wash our sins, that cleansing tide.

To physically die without this flow

is the greatest tragedy man can ever know.

Come, be purged, you will be free

from sin and death eternally.

Background:

I was still practicing rhythms and rhyme in this one. I have noticed that as I have gotten older, many of my poems lean more free verse than anything else; seeing some of these older pieces increases my desire to practice a variety of poetry styles more often.

In terms of the message, it reminds me that I haven’t dwelt in thought on Jesus and the cross enough recently.

Lord, remind us. Remind us of Jesus in all His beauty - His creative and sustaining work with You before coming to Earth; His precious, humble beginnings as a human being; His honest, compassionate walk in our shoes; His heartbreaking, courageous sacrifice; His triumphant, hope-giving ascension; His steady, diligent work on our behalf at Your side in heaven; and His radiant retrieval of His family one day. Praises be for Jesus. We pray in His name. May it be so.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
