TBT: Daybreak

A day ends and a day begins,

the morning over the night wins.

Joy and sorrow join as one,

a day is begun, a day is done.

You watch the night turn into day,

dark and light in an endless fray.

Your heart is quiet,

and tranquil, too.

‘Tis so calming to watch

a day become new.

Background:

Another little middle school blurb.

I only just noticed the conflict between some of the word choices - “wins” and “fray” versus “quiet and tranquil” and “calming”. Don’t typically correlate fray and tranquil. I don’t think I thought very hard about it when I wrote it; I think I was more focused on the image and the rhyming.

It is interesting that sunrise itself is such a momentous thing - this giant rock we’re anchored to is literally spinning around 1,000 miles per hour for each sunrise to occur, plus the other multitude of factors involved - but we experience it so silently. (Not counting the birdsongs.)

Things to ponder.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
