TBT: Come Home

I’ve got a mansion up there

and it’s waiting for me

along with those who’ve gone

to eternity.

They’ll greet me with shouts of joy,

I’ll see many a happy face

because my whole life I kept the faith

and finished the race.

I’ve got a mansion up there

and it’s waiting for me.

I’ll walk the streets of gold

and stroll by the crystal sea.

Peace and joy will overwhelm me,

there will be no more tears.

I’ll forever be with family

and we will never feel fear.

I will see Christ’s face

and He will say, “Well done,

good and faithful servant,

come home.”

Background:

Of all of my earliest poems, this one reminds me most of a hymn I would have grown up singing, with the style of rhyming and rhythm paired with the content. I wish I was gifted in writing music; it isn’t something I have really attempted, except for assignments in a music theory class I took in high school. I need to make some music writing friends, I guess. At the very least, it’s something I would love to learn about, even if it’s not something I myself am good at.

I am so thankful that God is Himself musical and that He asks us to sing as worship to Him - there are so many, many aspects of heaven that draw us to it, and the idea of singing together, singing to Him, and never tiring is one of the many.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
