Repledge

This day, o Lord, I pledge my love to You.

Please receive its promise anew.

This heart, from whence doubts once flew,

seeks to offer fears a roost again.

My heart is weak, my resolve is sore,

my strength is meek, my spirit poor,

my feeble soul aches to love You more

and be, in word and deed, a friend.

Background:

Tucked in with the rest of my poetry scraps (many of which are now recorded in one semi-organized word document), this one felt pretty much done. I needed to make one little tweak, but it seemed best to let this little fella speak for itself.

I feel this need to recenter a lot. In this phase of life, I’ve been trying to reestablish patterns of individual study and prayer. I had a rhythm for a while, but it seems like every time life shifts in some way, I take forever to find my footing again.

If you’re feeling that way in some aspect of life, I want to:

1) Emphasize to you that you are in company (whether it’s good company is really up to your personal preference, haha)

2) Exhort you and myself that we are not stuck here unless we choose to be. We can choose to slow down, learn what is needed and wise in this “now,” and lean on God to guide instead of trying to make our own way.

3) Even when we haven’t been as good a friend to Jesus as we would like, He continues to show up. May shame not be our motivator, but abiding gratitude and adoration for the active love of our Shepherd.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
