TBT: In Your Eyes

The strength to keep going

even when my heart is weary.

I find it all in your eyes.

The motivation to press on

when life is dark and dreary.

I find it all in your eyes.

The courage to stand up for what is right,

even when the whole world looks down on me.

I find it all in your eyes.

The belief that I can be

anything I want to be.

I find it all in your eyes.

The determination to finish

what I started.

I find it all in your eyes.

The ability to be together,

even when we are parted.

I find it all in your eyes.

The fact that you are proud of me

no matter what I do.

I find it all in your eyes.

The knowledge that, when asked for,

you will let me start completely new.

I find it all in your eyes.

The unconditional love that you have for me

that knows no bounds,

stretches from east to west,

is as big as the sky,

that transcends death,

that I also give back to you.

I see it all in your eyes.

Background:

When I wrote “In Your Eyes,” I was thinking of my parents and of God. I am eternally thankful that God gave me parents who told me and my sister, in words and actions, that they loved us.

Our family is by no means perfect, but it is nevertheless a blessing. My parents made many choices that I respect and appreciate that resulted in my sister and me being protected from many experiences and influences that I learned more about as I grew older.

God is the best parent - I hope that each of us, as we grow, seeks to imitate Him more and more in everything, including how we interact with those younger than us.

Lord, help us to use blessings we have received to continue the cycle of blessing.

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
