Good.

Whatever comes - self-control

Whatever comes - gentleness

Whatever comes - faithfulness

Whatever comes - kindness

Whatever comes - forgiveness

Whatever comes - patience

Whatever comes - hope

Whatever comes - peace

Whatever comes - joy

Whatever comes - praise

Whatever comes - steadfastness

Whatever comes - courage

Whatever comes - justice

Whatever comes - mercy

Whatever comes - grace

Whatever comes - unity

Whatever comes - love

Whatever comes -

Good.

Background:

This poem comes with a feeling for me, a sense of standing, stance wide and grounded, head over heart, eyelids tensed as they do when we settle into a sense of focus. A very “bring it on” kind of attitude, a position of relishing the challenge, whatever it is, feeling the stretch of spirit as it grows at the prompting of difficulty.

At the same time, an alternate feeling and image is carried for me in this poem, a sense of receiving earnest, steady exhortation, as if the Spirit is whispering, “No matter what is happening around you or to you, these things are what you are receiving from the Father, so don’t lose heart.”

We are receiving the gifts in this poem from the Father both as what He is extending to us for our own sakes and what He is placing within us that we may then extend to others for their sakes.

Ultimately, these blessings can be summed up in one word: good. So, remember:

“Good” is the end of the sentence,

this lifetime sentence we’re living out on Earth.

That’s why a period can come right after,

because everything ends with good.

That’s why we can look an circumstance

right in its face,

smile all the way up to our eyes,

warm our hands in anticipation,

and say, “Good.”

No cowering from a lot in life

that wears a taunting leer,

no shrinking from a lot

that reaches out with generosity

we feel is undeserved.

You can answer anything and everything,

anyone and everyone

with

“Good.”

Period.

*Poof, surprise, bonus poem

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
