An Introduction…

I swam in words in the womb - my parents tell me they read to me as they waited to meet me. I tasted words as I learned to read, realizing each one had a unique flavor profile, even if two words had the same basic meaning. I ran to words for comfort and belonging, for adventure and beautiful ideas that explored and expressed the vibrancy of life. I wove my own tapestries of words when I began to realize the brokenness in the middle of all the beauty.

In middle school, I began more intentionally to attempt to conduct words like music, trying to make something beautiful and honest. There were (and often still are) plenty of halting rhythms and stumbled phrases along the way, remembered with a little cringing at the awkwardness and a lot of fondness for an innocent self playing with big ideas and feelings. Writing has continued as a tide since then, ebbing and flowing with different seasons of life and states of mind.

In this cozy corner, I want to finally practice obedience to God in this area and do something with what He has given me - a love for words. I don’t know what He will do with my small offering, but I hope it includes bringing the comfort, belonging, adventure, and beautiful ideas that I have long been, and continue, searching for to someone else’s heart, too. If your heart is one of those, welcome - I’m so glad you’re here. He has great things in store for us, now and in times to come. What a call, what a sound, what a song!

Wishing you goodness without end,

Jess
